Arsenal are among a number of clubs monitoring the situation of former Chelsea striker Diego Costa.
Despite only leaving Atletico Madrid to join Atletico Mineiro in August, Diego Costa has already notified the Brazilian club of his desire to leave.
“The reasons given were adaptation, personal issues,” said Atletico director of football, Rodrigo Caetano. “When he goes to that side, there’s not much to argue about.
“He stayed with us until the end, he was a very important piece, competitive athlete.
“He was afraid of this long period that he stayed in Europe, he made it clear that at some point, if he didn’t feel comfortable, we could make an agreement of this type.
“We accepted the request and we are building the best agreement for all parties. We appreciate his delivery and this period with us. It is very likely that he will not stay with us this season from the sides.”
Spanish side Cadiz are thought to have made a offer but Goal.com claim that ‘did not seduce him’. Arsenal, however, as well as Corinthians, could make an offer.
It is said that while ‘no official proposal’ has been lodged by Arsenal, the Gunners have made ‘an informal consultation’ as to his availability.
The 33-year-old could boost the attacking ranks of Mikel Arteta, whose only current recognised senior strikers are Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is on international duty with Gabon at AFCON, while Folarin Balogun was recently loaned out to Championship side Middlesbrough.
Diego Costa, 33, could therefore provide a short-term alternative without Arsenal having to commit to a long contract or expensive move.
The Spain international spent three and a half years at Chelsea, scoring 59 goals in 120 games and winning two Premier League titles at Stamford Bridge.
He returned to Atletico in controversial circumstances in January 2018, netting 19 times in 81 matches before heading back to Brazil and scoring five in 19 to help Atletico Mineiro reach the Copa Libertadores semi-final while winning both the Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A and Copa do Brasil.
Arsenal have also been linked with Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic this winter.
