‘I expect some good news’ – Tuchel on talks with Chelsea duo

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel says he expects “some good news” on the contract situations of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen in the coming days.

Both Rudiger and Christensen have contracts at the club which expire at the end of this season with rumours that both could leave Stamford Bridge in the summer.

Rudiger has made ten Premier League starts for Chelsea this term, while Christensen has made eight starts with the pair clearly in Tuchel’s plans this campaign.

And the German boss hopes to have both their situations resolved as quickly as possible. On whether Rudiger’s future needs to be resolved quickly, Tuchel said: “We know that, of course. It is pretty clear what we want but it is not like this in football when the club wants something and things happen.

“You have to accept that sometimes it can arrive and you end up in situations where things are in a delay and take time but I am very sure that Toni feels also how respected and what an important role he plays in this club.”

On Rudiger and Christensen’s situations, Tuchel added: “Things are mature, respectful and clear. Of course there are delays. With Andreas too, from my point of view, we all want the same thing. Hopefully and obviously I expect some good news in the next days but everything can change.

“The situations are handled from all sides very carefully. So, during the process we can produce performances that we need to fulfill our goals.”

On the brutal fixture schedule over the festive period, Tuchel continued: “It is but I am looking forward to it. I love my job but it does not feel like a job. I am enjoying every day, being with the squad and the football team, I feel priviliged.

“I love the game and very blessed that I can be part of a big football club, to live my passion. It is the first time I will play around Christmas and New Year, we had little breaks in France and Germany but what did we do?

“We watched Boxing Day games. I am aware of the schedule but it does not feel like a job. I am happy to be here.”
