Klopp: My time at Liverpool is ‘far away from being over’

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp insists his time at Anfield is “far away from being over” amidst talk of Steven Gerrard replacing the German in the future.

Gerrard’s recent appointment as Aston Villa head coach has sparked up talk of him occupying the Anfield hot seat after Klopp departs.

When questioned on the matter, the former England midfielder said: “I don’t think me or anyone else will be able to control the noise, but for me that’s not important.”

Furthermore, the club’s former captain said he hopes Klopp stays at Liverpool for as long as possible.

“I saw Stevie say a lot of nice and smart things,” the German said on Friday. “I don’t have to think about these kind of things at the moment thank God because we are in the middle of this season and that’s all we are focused on.

“No other manager gets asked that often about what happens in three or four years. I didn’t think about and I don’t want to think about it.

“It’s all fine how it is. It’s over when it’s over, but it’s far away from being over so let’s focus on that.”

Liverpool face Arsenal on Saturday night, their first match since losing 3-2 at West Ham before the international break.

The Gunners are unbeaten in their last eight league matches after losing their opening three of the season.

On their resurgence, Klopp said: “If you win the game [of the season], everyone asks ‘can you win the league’, but if you lose, your directly in the relegation battle.

“Obviously with Arsenal, there was never a chance they would stay where they were at the start of the season, so it was always clear they would come back.

“The way they came back is not normal because they have had an incredible round of results. They are good, but they know they were lucky in one or two games that could’ve been different.

“But we are not surprised that Arsenal are a really good football team – but we have to make sure people remember we are a good football team as well.”
