Klopp provides update on Jota injury, praises ‘insane’ Liverpool star

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has provided an update on the fitness of forward Diogo Jota, but admitted he is still unsure on the severity of the injury.

Jota has been in sensational form so far this season, scoring 12 Premier League goals so far this season but was taken off at half-time in the Champions League win over Inter on Wednesday night.

An XI of players we can’t believe started the opening weekend

Liverpool take on Norwich on Saturday afternoon and whilst Klopp has revealed they will be without Jota, they are still waiting to see how long the Portuguese forward will be out for.

“No, he will not be available. We need further assessment. Some ligaments around the ankle. Everything is possible. It could go quick or the other way. We have to wait.”

Klopp also praised Mohamed Salah, who can hit the 150 goal mark for Liverpool against Norwich on Saturday, labelling his goal return for the Reds as ‘insane’.

“I am only seven years here. The club is so much older with so many great players. This team is one of the better ones and Mo has played a big part in that. His number are insane. You say 150, only recently we spoke about 100!”

Diogo Jota is definitely ruled out of Saturday’s match with Norwich City, but we await further detail on the extent of his ankle injury.

The Liverpool boss was also quick to praise another of his attacking options in Roberto Firmino.

The Brazilian has seen his role diminished so far this season, mainly due to the incredible form of Jota, but stepped up with the crucial first goal in the win over Inter.

“Bobby could be in each XI every single day because of his quality. It was one of the most away goals we’ve scored. It calmed everything down and we got the momentum back.”

Salah, Jota and Firmino are just three of Liverpool’s formidable attacking options and whilst Klopp is aware he has a strong squad, he has admitted there are a number of top sides they are up against.

“We are not the Harlem Globetrotters. There are a lot of good teams we have to fight with. No-one wants to be second. We don’t want to lose finals. I answered this question five million times.”
