Man Utd legend Ferguson ‘not consulted’ over new manager

Former Man Utd defender Mikael Silvestre claims Sir Alex Ferguson was “not consulted” over the arrival of a new manager.

The Red Devils are on the lookout for an interim boss to carry them until the end of the season before they make a long-term appointment in the summer.

Michael Carrick will lead the team for the next couple of fixtures, following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, before United appoint an interim boss – with the former Man Utd midfielder taking charge of his first match against Villarreal tonight.

Neville is right: Maguire is f**ked and that really is fine

Ferguson was involved in the process to appoint his successor when he left the club in 2013 after 27 years as manager.

Man Utd eventually made David Moyes their new boss but the current West Ham boss lasted just short of a full season at Old Trafford before he was sacked.

And Silvestre, who played under Ferguson, has claimed that his former manager won’t be “consulted” after what happened to Moyes.

Silvestre told L’Equipe (via the Daily Mail): “He is part of the board, but he is not consulted about the change of coach. The last time he had any influence on the arrival of a coach was with David Moyes.

“He is far from operational. He certainly had this privileged relationship with Ole, but he remains behind.”

On Carrick becoming caretaker, Silvestre added: “He will prepare the team and give the best of himself. He is still in the learning phase but it will still give the team a boost.”

Meanwhile, when Carrick was asked yesterday what had gone wrong for Man Utd this season, he replied: “We could talk through all sorts of things, but it’s not the time to look back now. I know what I could done better. It’s important everyone looks at themselves and they don’t look elsewhere.”

On whether he would make many changes to tactics and personnel, Carrick added: “We will have to wait and see. Of course I’ve got my own personality to Ole but we’re very similar and that’s why we worked together for so long.

“I’m not giving too much away about what my plans are but I’m very clear in my own mind about how we want to play and I’m looking forward to seeing that on the pitch.”
