Man Utd legend Sir Alex Ferguson “wants” ex-Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, according to reports.
Solskjaer left United on Sunday after they lost five of their last seven games in the Premier League.
The final straw was their 4-1 defeat to Watford at Vicarage Road. Claudio Ranieri’s side scored twice in second half stoppage time to take the game away from Man Utd.
Pochettino was linked with a move to the Red Devils during his time at Tottenham Hotspur.
The Argentinian did a great job at Spurs. He came close to winning the Premier League title in 2016/17 and he led them to their first Champions League final in 2019.
The 49-year-old took over at PSG earlier this year and he has 37 wins from his 53 games in charge. Sky Sports are reporting that Pochettino is Man Utd’s “top target” to replace Solskjaer.
talkSPORT’s Alex Crook is reporting that Ferguson “wants” Pochettino. The PSG boss is said to still be “very keen” to manage United.
“They don’t have a plan for the next manager at this point in time because they wouldn’t be announcing they are appointing an interim manager until the end of the season or that Michael Carrick would be coming in now.
“We’ve seen managers losing their jobs in the last few weeks, Nuno and Dean Smith at Aston Villa, where there have been plans in place and ready-made replacements to come in. Manchester United haven’t got that plan.
“This is the third time now in the last eight years where a manager has been given a new long-term contract or extension and lost their job within a few months.
“So the planning hasn’t been great. I don’t really want to stick the knife in today to the club’s owners, to the club’s hierarchy but you have to ask serious questions. I’ve had enough of it to be honest with you. I’ve spoke to you about it over the last few years.
“I think the club is run on a business side ok but I think culturally. From a point of view of football decision making, it leaves a lot to be desired.
“And the reaility of it is that they’ve been caught out again, they’ve been caught out in the last few weeks, they’ve not known what to do, they’ve been indecisive.”
