Man Utd ‘open’ to making interim interim Carrick interim boss

Manchester United are reportedly ‘open’ to making interim interim manager Michael Carrick their interim boss.

Carrick won his first game in charge of United on Tuesday as goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho secured victory over Villarreal, and saw them safely through to the Champions League knockout stages.

Carrick was appointed caretaker manager on Sunday following the dismissal of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

United are reportedly look to hire an interim manager until the end of the season, with Carrick labelled the interim interim.

But The Times (via Mirror) claim United are now considering giving him an extended run at the helm.

It would give United more time to find a permanent replacement for Solskjaer and remove the need for a short-term appointment.

This is how it starts, folks… Wheels and that…

Mauricio Pochettino has been heavily linked with the permanent position, but distanced himself from the role on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Paul Scholes claimed Carrick – along with fellow coaches Mike Phelan and Kieran McKenna – should be “embarrassed” to still be at the club and should have left with Soskjaer.

“It’s the same people running the team, the same people given massive responsibility every week to put that team on the pitch,” Scholes said.

“Arguably it’s more Kieran McKenna and Michael Carrick who’ve been preparing the team. Ole gave them that responsibility, so how that changes now I don’t know.

“Four weeks ago, that Liverpool game. That was the time we knew Ole was going to go, it was plainly obvious. So then the people above had to prepare the next manager and the next batch of staff.

“I’d be almost embarrassed being the staff now, after what happened to Ole. I think they all should have gone. They were part of Ole’s team, Ole trusted them each week to prepare the team – and they’ve let the club and players down as much as Ole has.”

Responding to Scholes’ comments after the game, Carrick said: “It is not an important result for me personally.

“It’s an important result for the club. It’s been an emotional few days, the first person I spoke to after Ed offered me the role was Ole. I thought that was the right thing to do.”
