Newcastle United have ‘asked’ Atletico Madrid about the availability of centre-half Felipe, according to reports.
The Magpies have been linked with numerous central defenders this month with Brighton’s Dan Burn looking likely to join before Monday’s deadline.
They have confirmed the signings of striker Chris Wood from Burnley, right-back Kieran Trippier from Atletico, Bruno Guimaraes from Lyon and Matt Targett on loan from Aston Villa.
Arsenal remain all process and no plan on transfer deadline day
Eddie Howe remains keen on completing more signings before the transfer window closes, with a striker and further centre-half remaining a priority.
And Atletico’s Felipe has emerged as a potential player who could join on Monday evening, as per Spanish outlet Cope (via Sport Witness).
The Brazilian’s contract expires at the end of the season and has been in the Spanish capital since joining from Porto in 2019.
He has made 94 appearances for Los Colchoneros – including 20 this season. He was sent off against Liverpool in a Champions League encounter back in November.

If Newcastle do sign Felipe, it is rumoured that Diego Simeone will look to bring in Barcelona centre-half Clement Lenglet as a replacement.
The Geordies’ number one target in defence was Sven Botman but a move broke down earlier this month.
However, the Premier League club have reportedly reignited their interest and could make a move to sign the Lille man before the winter window slams shut.
On January 10, David Ornstein claimed that Newcastle had “all-but” given up on a deal to sign Botman after Lille were “refusing to consider” selling their star defender.
While another report said that the French club were ‘not engaging’ in a deal and that the Magpies latest bid had been rejected.
But apparently Newcastle launched a late bid to sign Botman again last night with Eddie Howe still looking to add a centre-back to his squad, with Brighton defender Dan Burn also linked.
Calciomercato journalist Daniele Longo has claimed that Newcastle made a €40m (£33m) bid ‘last night’ but the defender ‘wants to choose the future starting from next summer and is attracted by the strong interest of Milan’.
