Newcastle make loan ‘offer’ for Lingard involving ‘survival bonus’

Newcastle United have reportedly made a fresh offer to sign Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard on loan until the end of the season.

The Magpies have been working all month to secure the signing of the England international, with West Ham also interested.

He spent the second half of last season on loan with the Hammers where he enjoyed a career-reviving spell.

Lingard scored nine and assisted five in 16 Premier League matches as the Irons finished sixth in the league last term.

He opted to stay at United last summer to fight for his place under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but has struggled greatly for game time in 2021/22.

Solskjaer’s sacking and interim appointment of Ralf Rangnick gave Lingard belief he could break into the first team, but it has not worked out that way for the 29-year-old.

He has not started a league match for the Red Devils since New Year’s Day 2020, but his future remains uncertain.

Rangnick reportedly gave Lingard his blessing to leave on deadline day. It is now up to the club’s hierarchy to complete a deal with Newcastle and West Ham still keen.

According to Craig Hope, the Geordies have made a fresh loan bid to sign the playmaker. They have offered a £3million loan fee and a £4m “survival bonus”, meaning they will pay United an extra fee if they avoid relegation this season.

It is now up to Manchester United, who are reluctant to let Lingard join West Ham as they are a direct rival for the top four.

Earlier on Monday, Fabrizio Romano claimed Newcastle are “pushing” to sign Lingard after a deal for Reims striker Hugo Ekitike fell through.

The £25m-rated striker has also been linked with a move to Newcastle’s Premier League rivals West Ham.

The 19-year-old came through the ranks at Reims and he has been a key player for them this season, with ten goal contributions in his 18 appearances in Ligue 1.
