‘No influence’ – Tuchel not worrying about Chelsea ownership situation

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has provided an update on the ownership situation at the club, revealing he isn’t worrying about it too much.

Russian owner Roman Abramovich announced this week that he is selling the club, amid the ongoing invasion of Ukraine by his home nation.

Forget corporate Chelsea, embrace a different kind of club

Tuchel hit out at reporters earlier this week over consistent questioning about Abramovich and the situation at Chelsea but when asked again ahead of their trip to Burnley on Saturday, Tuchel said: “We had a briefing here the day after the match from Petr [Cech], who gave everyone here in the building, including the players, a quick brief and explained the situation.

“It wasn’t too much that we didn’t already know so we have to live with this situation.

“It doesn’t make sense to worry too much because we don’t have a lot of influence, if any influence at all.”

Tuchel was asked if he could see Chelsea’s next owner be like Abramovich, to which he replied: “Let’s speak in 20 years and we’ll see. Whoever buys Chelsea is lucky to have it.”

There has also been speculation surrounding the future of Marina Granovskaia, the clubs director, but the German boss refused to comment on her future at Stamford Bridge.

“I will not comment on speculation about that [Marina’s future]. My communication with Petr and Marina has been excellent from day one.

“Hopefully it stays on the same level with the same person, but if not we will have to adapt.”

In terms of his own future at the club, Tuchel claimed he has found the ‘perfect fit’ at Chelsea and would love to extend his stay with the current European Champions.

“I have the opposite problem of staying here. Chelsea, from my point of view, is the perfect fit and I love to be here. Hopefully, it continues.

“There is uncertainty but isn’t it always as a football manager? So I have trained to live with it at different levels and this is quite the level. But I am positive and I hope things will end well.”
