Ornstein explains why Everton loan deal for Spurs man is ‘unlikely’

The Athletic reporter David Ornstein doubts Everton will sign Tottenham midfielder Tanguy Ndombele on loan in January with the Frenchman more likely to end up abroad.

Ndombele has been linked with a move away from north London after failing to impress under a number of different managers at the club.

Jose Mourinho, Nuno Espirito Santo and Antonio Conte have all been unimpressed with the French midfielder, who has regularly found himself out of the starting XI.

Six massive transfers that came out of absolutely nowhere

Current Spurs boss Conte was asked about Ndombele’s future in his press conference on Friday and although he didn’t want to give too much away, he did little to deny rumours of his departure.

“Honestly, I prefer to speak about this topic always with the club. For sure I made an evaluation about the squad but I have spoken to the club and I hope the club listen to me,” said the Italian.

There has been lots of speculation that Mauricio Pochettino wants to take him to Paris Saint-Germain, while a report on Wednesday insisted that Valencia had agreed a loan deal until the end of the season.

Everton have been linked with a possible temporary move in January and now reliable journalist Ornstein has now shed light on why that might not be the best move for either party.

Ornstein told the BBC Transfer Gossip Daily Podcast: “How do I say this diplomatically? From people I speak to, Tanguy Ndombele is more suited to football in a different country.

“In terms of the fact that he doesn’t seem to have settled well into English football. So why would going to Everton solve that issue? Only if there are no teams on the continent who are willing to pay his salary or present an attractive enough proposition for him.

“Everton, they need fighters at the minute, they need warriors who will get their hands dirty, and I don’t think we’ve seen that from Ndombele at Tottenham.

“A loan would suit Everton because they’re in a bit of a tricky situation financially, I just think this one is unlikely, if he is to leave Tottenham before the deadline it’s more likely that he’ll go abroad.”
