Poch deal moves closer with Man Utd ‘confident’ of appointment

Man Utd are understood to be ‘confident’ that they can bring Paris Saint-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino to Old Trafford.

The Argentine is reportedly unhappy in Paris with a number of issues causing him to consider leaving the club mid-season to join the Red Devils.

Pochettino has been linked numerous times with a move to Old Trafford but it has never materialised for one reason or another.

Arsene Wenger is the perfect interim manager for Man Utd…

The former Tottenham boss is now favourite to become United’s permanent manager but an official statement released to announce Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s departure set out out the club’s intention to appoint an interim boss until the end of the season.

There has been speculation surrounding numerous names for the interim position with former Newcastle United boss Steve Bruce reportedly throwing his hat into the ring.

And now the Manchester Evening News claims the deal is moving closer with Man Utd now ‘confident’ that they can get the appointment over the line.

Pochettino ‘wants to manage Man United and is prepared to leave Paris Saint-Germain mid-season to join them’ with the French side ‘demanding £10million in compensation’.

Man Utd have ‘not made an official approach for Pochettino’ but his ‘willingness to move to United mid-season is significant’ for the Old Trafford giants.

Despite the report, former Man Utd defender Rio Ferdinand doubts Pochettino will move mid-season.

“I don’t think that Pochettino leaves PSG during the season,” Ferdinand said on his Vibe with FIVE YouTube channel. “He’s a man of integrity, he’s a man of respect.

“I think he’s grateful for the opportunity to be at PSG and as a man, I think he’ll just say: ‘If they want me that bad they’ll wait.’

“I think from the media that we saw over the last couple of years when he was out of work, that for him Man United is the pinnacle, is the club he’d love to get to, get his hands on and guide the club.

“He’s got a lot of stuff going on at PSG so you have to be respectful in that sense. It’s about what PSG want as well because they’re not the kind of club that will just relinquish their manager.

“I’m putting money on Pochettino, for the end of the season, start of next season, my money’s on Pochettino being manager.”
