Poch ‘secretly and discreetly’ contacts Man Utd in case he ‘frees himself’

According to reports, Mauricio Pochettino has “secretly and discreetly” maintained contact with Man Utd in case he “frees himself” from PSG.

The 49-year-old has previously had spells in charge at Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.

Pochettino impressed at both clubs and he led Spurs to the 2018/19 Champions League final.

Man Utd faring well – above Chelsea – in European form table…

After a string of poor results, he left Tottenham in November 2019. He returned to management at the start of last year as he took over at PSG.

Pochettino was heavily linked with Man Utd while at Tottenham. These reports have continued while he has been at PSG.

Ralf Rangnick joined Man Utd in December as he replaced Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The German is set to be in charge until the summer.

French outlet Le Parisien (as cited by Canal Supporters) are reporting that Pochettino has “secretly and discreetly maintained contact with Manchester United”.

This has been done “in case he manages to free himself from his contract in Paris next summer”.

The report adds that Pochettino and Ajax boss Erik ten Hag are both being “considered” by Man Utd. It is also stated that if the Argentinian does leave, PSG will target Zinedine Zidane.

Elsewhere, Paul Scholes is of the belief that Man Utd is currently a “poisonous mess”:

“The club just feels like it’s in a mess, player, staff and manager wise.

“Who wants to come into this club? It feels like a right mess. It does feel poisonous.”

On the lack of quality at Man Utd, Scholes picked out Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Marcus Rashford as three players who still have a lot to prove. The former Man Utd midfielder added: “It has to come a point where you think, ‘Are these players good enough?’

“We know [Cristiano] Ronaldo, [Paul] Pogba, [Raphael] Varane, [Nemanja] Matic have great experience and won trophies but the rest of the squad haven’t proven themselves to be good enough to win anything.

“Some of these players have had a lot of games now. Marcus Rashford, he’s had a lot of games, are we ever going to see these lads reach their potential?

“Are they ever going to be good enough to win trophies? [Harry] Maguire, is he good enough? [Victor] Lindelof, is he good enough?

“We keep saying how good they are but they are failing to produce what is required on the pitch.”
