Pundit: Rangnick ‘talks too much’, his approach could frustrate players

Man Utd boss Ralf Rangnick ‘talks too much’ and his public approach to matters could be frustrating the players, according to Carlton Cole.

Earlier this week, the Daily Mirror claimed that Harry Maguire and Cristiano Ronaldo were ’embroiled in a power struggle’ at Old Trafford with a building ‘friction’ between the two Red Devils players over the captaincy.

How Michael Jordan and Tom Brady could help Liverpool sway Salah…

It was reported that Maguire feared losing ‘the captaincy on a permanent basis’ with Rangnick said to be considering a change to take the pressure off the under-performing centre-back.

As a result, Rangnick was bombarded with questions about the mood in the camp and poured cold water on rumours Maguire could be stripped of the captaincy on Friday.

“I’ve never spoken with players about captaincy,” Rangnick told reporters. “It’s never been an issue with me. Harry is our captain and will stay our captain.

“I’m not frustrated at all because I know it is not true – all the other things I don’t listen to that noise because I focus on preparing the team.

“I have heard about what was written – yes there were players that were unhappy at the end of the window. This has improved and the atmosphere in the locker room is better than it was a few weeks ago.

“It’s about performing well and showing togetherness on the pitch. That’s what we can influence.”

And former Premier League striker Cole believes the Man Utd players would prefer if Rangnick didn’t discuss squad issues with the press.

“This is just too much. This geezer keeps on talking! For me, he’s talking too much,” Cole told talkSPORT.

“I’m talking from a player’s perspective, if I’m always seeing my gaffer going to the papers and talking about problems, everyone doesn’t need to know that!

“That’s got to be in-house. I don’t get it. I just don’t get why he’s talking so much.”
