Pundit warns Liverpool about moving for out-of-contract Juve star

Former Sunderland forward Kevin Phillips has warned Liverpool about making a move for Juventus attacker Paulo Dybala.

The Argentine forward is out-of-contract with the Italian giants this summer and with the signing of Fiorentina hitman Dusan Vlahovic confirmed, it looks likely that the player is set to depart.

2020 vision: Every PL club’s best signing of the decade so far

Dybala is currently into his seventh season with Juve after singing from Palermo in 2015. He has 111 goals in 277 Serie A appearances, often playing second fiddle to the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Gonzalo Higuain.

Liverpool have been tipped a potential destination for the player should he depart in the summer, as have domestic rivals Inter Milan.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are on the verge of signing Porto star Luis Diaz after overtaking Tottenham in the move for the Columbia winger.

Should the 25-year-old complete his move to Anfield that would leave the likes of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino and Diaz as options for Klopp with a number of players able to fill in if needed.

This has led former Premier League forward Phillips claiming that a move for Dybala maybe not the smartest deal for club, or player.

Speaking to Football Insider, when asked if Dybala would break into the Liverpool starting XI, Phillips admitted: “No, if I’m being honest.

“Not when you’ve got Diogo Jota, Mane, and Salah all back fit and firing. Not many in the world could break into that front three.

“Whoever comes, whether it’s Dybala or someone else – they’ll have to fight for their place.

“Of course, we don’t know whether the contract of Salah is going to be resolved. If he’s going to move on, then obviously that will free up a spot.

“But at the minute, no one is breaking in ahead of those three – they’re three of the best in the world.”

Meanwhile, Fulham boss Marco Silva has provided an update on the future of another Liverpool target, Fabio Carvalho.

“Fabio will be with us until the end of the season,” he said on Friday. “I would like to see him here for more years.

“From day one I have been trying to keep him. It is not a surprise that clubs are interested in Fabio. We are talking about a young player with big talent.

“The situation is not easy because he is in the last year of his contract, but that is the reality. It is out of our plans for him to leave the club in this window.

“It has been difficult for us to renew with him, but we are trying.

“It is always difficult with a player of this talent – even with a contract it is difficult to keep him, and without it is even worse. But Fabio will be with us until the end of this season.”
