Rashford silences journalist over claims he’s ‘irritated’ by Man Utd star

Marcus Rashford has responded to claims suggesting that he is among a couple of Man Utd players ‘irritated’ by Cristiano Ronaldo.

The club legend returned to Manchester United ahead of the 2021/22 season. They signed him from Juventus.

Ronaldo has been involved in twelve goals from his 21 Premier League outings this term. He shone in the Champions League group stages as he scored six goals in just five games.

Ronaldo makes monumental decision; Liverpool ref controversy

The 36-year-old was on a six-game goal drought heading into United’s game against Brighton on Tuesday. He returned to the scoresheet as Ralf Rangnick’s men won 2-0.

It was reported earlier this week that Ronaldo was ‘angry’ as he did not think Rangnick was ‘the level’ for Man Utd.

German journalist Christian Falk suggested on Wednesday that Rashford and Maguire are ‘irritated that Ronaldo wants to lead the dressing room’ at United.

Rashford took to Twitter on Wednesday evening to rubbish these claims:

Are we just making it up as we go along now then? Please stop looking for divides. https://t.co/gVwQuYMwx4

Elsewhere, former striker Andy Cole reckons Man Utd would be a “mid-table” side without the good form of goalkeeper David de Gea.

A standout performer in a disappointing season at Old Trafford, the 31-year-old is on course to win the club’s player of the year award for the fifth time since joining from Atletico Madrid in 2011.

The in-form goalkeeper produced another superb display as Man Utd recovered from a shaky first-half display to beat Brighton 2-0 on Tuesday, moving them up to fourth in the Premier League ahead of this weekend’s eagerly anticipated trip to Leeds.

And Cole – who scored 121 goals in 275 appearances for Man Utd – reckons his former club would be “really struggling” without De Gea at his best.

“Without this guy’s form, Manchester United are mid-table,” Cole said on Premier League Productions.

“I don’t think anyone can argue about that. His form this season has been unbelievable. That tells me Manchester United are nowhere near where they should be.

“Defensively they are not where they should be at, midfield they are not where they should be at and upfront, they are not scoring enough goals.

“Without that man, I think they would be really struggling.”
