Terry names rival as Chelsea’s ‘threat’ in Prem title race

Chelsea legend John Terry has praised Liverpool as he admitted that they “look a threat” to his former club in the Premier League title race.

Liverpool and Manchester City are in the fight for the title along with Chelsea. The Londoners are currently leading the way as they are three points clear at the top.

After winning the Champions League last term, Thomas Tuchel’s side have one loss from their twelve league games in 2021/22.

Liverpool lost to West Ham United before the international break. They recovered over the weekend as they hammered Arsenal 4-0 at Anfield.

Chelsea drew 1-1 versus Liverpool in August and they play each other at Stamford Bridge at the start of January.

As reported by the Liverpool Echo, Terry has suggested that Liverpool “look very solid”:

“Liverpool look a threat, they’ve got so many goals in them going forward,” Terry said.

“Defensively I look at Van Dijk and think I’m not sure who gets past him. We all have an off day, which he will, but at the same time they look very solid.

“Just having that threat up front, we had it at Chelsea years ago with Drogba and Robben and those type of players.

“You just feel like you’re going to outscore other teams.

“I think the strength and depth in [Chelsea’s] squad looks to me by far the best in the league.

“They’ve coped really well without him [Lukaku] and they’ve got players who turn up and score goals as well. I’ve been really impressed how they’ve dealt with it.

“Having Lukaku back in the run up to Christmas will be a big boost as well.”

Elsewhere, Emmanuel Petit has called for Chelsea to give Antonio Rudiger the money that he wants:

“If [Rudiger] leaves, it would be a real pity for Chelsea. If I remember correctly before Tuchel came in he was on the bench and wasn’t playing.

“Now he looks like one of the best defenders around. He could leave on a free and Chelsea would have to spend a minimum of £30m to find a new defender of his level.

“And there’s never a guarantee a buy will work out. If he asks for two more years, just give him the money.”
