Spurs battle Arsenal for £32m Aston Villa star

Tottenham have set their sights on Aston Villa midfielder and Arsenal target Douglas Luiz.

Having been snubbed by Adama Traore and also missing out on Liverpool-bound Luis Diaz, Spurs have turned their attention to Juventus star Dejan Kulusevski as Antonio Conte looks to bolster his forward options.

But the Spurs boss also wants reinforcements in the centre of midfield, with Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso both potentially leaving this month.

Along with Newcastle, Spurs have been handed a boost in their chase of Yves Bissouma, with Brighton now reportedly ‘willing to sell’ the midfielder for £50million.

But Spurs are also ‘preparing a £32m bid for Douglas Luiz’, who has 18 months remaining on his contract at Villa Park, according to The Daily Mail.

It looks as though they were have to battle north London rivals Arsenal for the Brazilian midfielder, as Mikel Arteta remains keen on adding to his midfield ranks after their move for Arthur from Juventus fell through.

Villa boss Steven Gerrard is said to want to keep Luiz, but the money would give them the opportunity to increase their offer for Rodrigo Bentancur.

Fabrizio Romano confirmed on Twitter that Serie A side Juventus ‘have received’ an ‘official bid’ from Aston Villa for Bentancur – who has been restricted to 13 Serie A starts this season – with the offer currently standing at €25m (£20.7m).

It is understood that the fee will be divided up into €20m up front plus €5m add ons but Romano adds that it is ‘not enough to accept yet’ as ‘Juve will pay 30% of future sale to Boca Juniors’.

The Mail claims Villa will use the cash to push forward with their plans to sign Bentancur.
