‘Angry’ Man Utd star feels ‘disrespected’ with loan on ‘verge of collapse’

Man Utd winger Jesse Lingard is growing increasingly frustrated by the club’s refusal to immediately sanction a loan move to Newcastle, according to reports.

The England playmaker has not started a Premier League match for the Red Devils since New Year’s Day 2020.

He enjoyed a terrific loan spell at West Ham United during the second half of last season, scoring nine goals in 16 league encounters.

Martial leaves legacy of frustration and unfulfilled potential

Lingard opted to stay and fight for his place at Old Trafford in 2021/22, but has struggled for game time under both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick.

The 29-year-old has played 89 minutes across nine matches in the Premier League this term, scoring twice.

There has been speculation that West Ham and Newcastle want to sign him in January but the most concrete interest seems to have come from the Magpies.

It was recently claimed in the Manchester Evening News that Newcastle were ‘working on a deal’ to bring Lingard to St James’ Park.

However, The Athletic journalist David Ornstein now claims that his ‘proposed move’ from Man Utd to Newcastle is ‘on the verge of collapsing’ over extra payments.

Ornstein insists that although Rangnick gave his ‘blessing’ to a deal, the Red Devils ‘asked for a sizeable loan fee that their Premier League counterparts deemed unacceptable’.

And ‘unless the situation can be resurrected’ then Newcastle will ‘reluctantly switch their attention to alternative targets before the transfer window closes next Monday’.

Another report in the Daily Telegraph – which has since been deleted – claims that Lingard is ‘increasingly angered and exasperated’ over the treatment he is receiving at Old Trafford, while he ‘feels disrespected’ at the delaying of his potential loan move to Newcastle.

Meanwhile, West Ham assistant manager Stuart Pearce would improve a lot of Premier League clubs, including the Hammers.

“Jesse is a commodity that is not playing for his football club that would be a benefit to a lot of clubs in the Premier League, that would be my personal opinion,” Pearce said.

“Our [club] is certainly one of them, there is no doubt.

“Everyone is aware that we tried to get Jesse back again last summer and that will continue probably in this window as well but that is down to Jesse.

“Jesse has six months of his contract left, he will decide and Manchester Untied more importantly will decide what his future is for the next six months.”
