Arsenal legend ‘expects’ Aubameyang to lose captaincy

Martin Keown admits he “expects” the Arsenal captaincy to change following Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s disciplinary breach.

Current captain Aubameyang was excluded from Saturday’s squad for the win against Southampton after reportedly returning late from a personal trip.

The Gabonese striker’s actions are not befitting of a captain, according to Keown, who believes he let his team down.

Time for absent Aubameyang to handover Arsenal armband…

“The captaincy is in question now,” Keown said on Match of the Day. “You can’t keep being late or disappearing on trips abroad and not coming back on time.

“Your team needs you and he’s not there when they need him the most. I’d expect that [the captaincy] to change now.”

Following the Southampton win, Arteta said: “He [Aubameyang] had a disciplinary breach, that applies to everybody. That’s a non-negotiable and when that happens he’s out of the team.

“Whatever happens in the dressing room, I cannot share. I am sorry. I’m telling you the reason, I cannot lie, it was that, this is where I stand. From my side, I will never [say what the breach was.]”

Meanwhile, Watford’s in-form attacker Emmanuel Dennis has revealed why he decided to stop supporting Arsenal.

In an interview with Sky Sports, Dennis noted that he used to support the Gunners. The forward revealed that he would “cry when they lose”.

“I used to be an Arsenal fan. I like Cesc Fabregas,” he said.

“But I’m no [longer] an Arsenal fan. I was [into Arsenal] so much sometimes I could cry when they lose. That wasn’t good for me.

“So I was like, ‘nah, I’m going to stick to myself and don’t care much because it’s not good for my health’. It’s just me and myself right now.”

The Nigeria international has been in great form for Watford this season. He has registered seven goals and five assists from his 15 outings in the Premier League.
