Aston Villa defender Matty Cash is ‘in talks’ with Spanish giants Atletico Madrid over a potential summer move.
Atletico boss Diego Simeone is searching for a new right-back after losing Kieran Trippier to Newcastle earlier this month.
Vlahovic, Arsenal and the fine line between ambition and fantasy
England international Trippier returned to the Premier League after two-and-a-half years in the Spanish capital in a deal worth £12 million.
Manchester United’s Portuguese full-back Diogo Dalot has been linked as has Wolves defender Nelson Semedo.
Arsenal defender Cedric has also been linked with the club in a potential loan deal.
However, The Sun is now reporting that Villa defender Cash is a new target for Simeone and the club would be willing to spend over £30 million on him.
Cash has been with Villa since the summer of 2020, becoming a key part of the side, initially under Dean Smith and now under Steven Gerrard.
The 24-year-old is also now full Polish international after changing his international allegiances.
Villa have brought in Calum Chambers from Arsenal with the player capable of playing at both right-back and centre-back, so if Atletico were able to bring Cash to Spain, they do now have a replacement at the club.
Elsewhere, Arsenal legend has urged Mikel Arteta to give Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang another chance.
Speaking to talkSPORT, when asked if Arsenal needed Aubameyang, Parlour replied: “Of course they need him.
“But you’ve also got to show your dominance as a manager and say you can’t be doing stuff – especially when you have a young team.
“As a captain you’ve got to set a good example, which is very important.
“I’d look up to Tony Adams back in the day and he set the example – and not by going to the pub by the way – but by being on time and making sure when you wear that shirt you play for the team.
“Stuff like that you learn as you go along.
“But the young players will look at that and see he’s turning up late and not doing this and will be thinking; ‘Can we do that as well?’
“It’s not a good look for Arsenal Football Club.
“Arteta’s come down strong on him and now it’s all about the reaction, for me. I’d give him another chance because he’s that good and can score you goals.”
