Bent hits out at Arsenal striker by comparing him to Ronaldo

Darren Bent has criticised Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for not showing the same “hunger and desire” as Man Utd star Cristiano Ronaldo.

Aubameyang scored 22 goals in each of his first two Premier League seasons at the Emirates Stadium following a £56m move from Borussia Dortmund.

But his form has dropped off since then, bagging ten Premier League goals last term while only managing four in 13 appearances so far this campaign.

Rangnick isn’t fun for Liverpool fans, ’embarrassing’ Man Utd and…

Ronaldo, meanwhile, has hit the ground running on his return to Man Utd, scoring 12 goals in 16 matches in all competitions.

And former Premier League striker Bent thinks Aubameyang needs to become as “hungry” as Ronaldo to get back to the top of his game.

Bent said on talkSPORT: “When you look at Aubameyang and you look at Ronaldo, one of the biggest differences to me is the hunger and the desire.

“I look at Ronaldo and he is absolutely starving hungry to score goals. One’s 37. How old is Aubameyang, 33? I understand that.

“He’s not the greatest because of his hunger, it’s because of his ability. You can be hungry to score goals. But I look at Aubameyang sometimes and he’s not in the box, there’s times when he’s getting beaten by the defenders.

“Listen, his biggest attribute is his pace. So there are times when Arsenal are struggling in games, what do you have to do? You have to clip it over the top, just roll it down the channel and let him use his pace and get Arsenal up the pitch. It’s like he doesn’t even do that sometimes.

“As the ball went wide, he’s not in the box. At times, there have been occasions where he has carried Arsenal on his back – pre-contract.

“The cup final, the start of the following season, he carried Arsenal on his back and he was fantastic. That player is not the same player that you see today.”

Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta felt Arsenal let Man Utd off the hook on Thursday night after the Gunners were defeated 3-2 at Old Trafford.

Arteta said: “We scored the first and after that we had perfect control of the game but we started to give some very simple balls away in very dangerous areas.

“We gave them so much space, they gained some momentum and we had some difficulties there. We conceded the goal.

“We started the second half well and had total control but then conceded again. We dominated again and scored the second one but after that we need to have the maturity to go on and score the third one. We didn’t manage it and they scored again.

“But being realistic, conceding three goals at Old Trafford makes it very difficult to get something from the game.”
