Brentford have bids turned down for Championship duo

Brentford have had bids rejected for Hull City forward Keane Lewis-Potter and Nottingham Forest midfielder Brennan Johnson, according to reports.

The Bees have only made one January signing so far, bringing in goalkeeper Jonas Lossl from FC Midtjylland on loan until the end of the season.

They have been linked with former Tottenham midfielder Christian Eriksen, who is reportedly ‘close’ to joining on a free transfer.

With the winter window closing on Monday, Brentford are clearly keen to get some deals done and have reportedly delved into the Championship market.

According to BBC Humberside, the Premier League club have had a bid rejected by Hull for their in-demand forward Lewis-Potter.

The bid was worth around £10m after initially making an offer last summer, says David Burns.

The 20-year-old is attracting interest from a number of Premier League clubs. He has scored five goals and provided four assists in 27 league games this season.

Brentford are also keen on signing Forest playmaker Johnson but have had an £18m bid rejected, according to the Telegraph.

£18m would be a club-record signing for the Bees and a club-record sale for the Championship outfit.

Steve Cooper’s side are seventh in the league and are also through to the fourth round of the FA Cup, where they will face Leicester City.

It is no wonder why Cooper is eager to keep hold of Johnson, who has scored two and assisted one in his last two matches for Forest.

His fine form at club level has earned him seven caps for the Welsh national team. He played 45 minutes of the Dragons’ 5-1 win over Belarus in November.

Meanwhile, Brentford forward Bryan Mbeumo has extended his contract until the end of the 2025/2026 season, the Premier League outfit have confirmed.

“I am very pleased that Bryan has decided to extend his contract with us,” head coach Thomas Frank told the club’s website.

“He has been an important player for us since he arrived in 2019.

“He had a fantastic first season in the Championship and just as good a follow-up year last season, as he developed other parts of his game. His Premier League performances have been even more impressive.”
