Jamie Carragher thinks Jurgen Klopp is “lying” after the Liverpool boss claimed he doesn’t mind who his side face in the Champions League final.
The Reds overcame a first-half scare to come back from two goals down to win 3-2 against Villarreal on Tuesday and secure a 5-2 aggregate victory over the Spanish side in their Champions League semi-final.
Real Madrid host Manchester City tonight with the Premier League side looking to maintain their 4-3 lead from a gripping first leg at the Etihad Stadium.
Liverpool were not lucky against Villarreal but the fans certainly are to support this brilliance
Liverpool boss Klopp was asked after the win over Villarreal who he would want to face in the Champions League final but the German insisted he had no preference.
When asked if he thought Klopp knew who he wanted to face in the final, Carragher replied: “I think he’s lying. I am pretty certain he’d prefer Real Madrid.”
Liverpool are still on track to win an unprecedented Quadruple this season but Carragher believes whatever happens during the rest of the campaign, Klopp has already secure his legend status at Anfield.
Carragher added: “For the last few months there’s almost been a panic around Liverpool the fact that Jurgen Klopp hadn’t signed a new contract and he still had two years to go.
“I was still thinking what was going to happen when he goes and he still had two years to go. So the fact he signed a new contract. I was always confident that he would because I don’t believe there’s another club that’s like Liverpool.

“There’s lot’s of great clubs but not another one that suits Jurgen Klopp. Liverpool are not an underdog by any means, they are one of the biggest clubs out there but that thing of when he was at Dortmund and they were fighting against Bayern with no funds and the same sort of against maybe Manchester United and Manchester City in the Premier League.
“I couldn’t see him managing a Real Madrid or a Barcelona I don’t think it would suit his style of management.
“I think he needs the intensity of the crowd and that togetherness. He is already and who knows what Liverpool will have won in four year’s time, he is going to be remembered as one of the greatest managers in Liverpool’s history and one of the greatest figures in Liverpool’s history right up there with the great managers.
“Liverpool went 30 years without a title, if Liverpool continue the success after Jurgen Klopp left and compete at this level he will be seen as that Shankley figure who started it and then it was carried on by other managers. That’s how pivotal his signing has been.”
