Chelsea star bats away transfer rumours as he ‘owes that to the club’

Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger has insisted that he is “focused” on performing well for the Londoners amid reports linking him with a move to Bayern Munich.

The German international is in his fifth season at Chelsea. He joined them in 2017 from Serie A side Roma.

Rudiger has been relied upon by Thomas Tuchel during his time at the club. He helped the Blues secure top spot in the Premier League heading into the international break.

Fergie to Arsenal among five managerial near-misses…

The 28-year-old’s future at Chelsea is in doubt as his contract is due to expire in 2022. He has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich in recent weeks.

Rudiger has told German outlet Welt am Sonntag that he is still keen to perform well for Chelsea:

“For now I am only concentrating on what is happening right now. I owe that to the club, the coach and the team.

When asked if he was considering a return to the Bundesliga, Rudiger added: “I’m currently only focused on Chelsea. We’ll see what happens.”

Rudiger’s Chelsea teammate Billy Gilmour is currently on loan at Norwich City. This move has not gone to plan so far.

The Scotsman has not started for the Canaries in the Premier League since September. Tuchel has revealed that they will make a decision on Gilmour’s future in January:

“We’ll take the decision in January, when the decision has to be made, not now.

“The things were clear when we decided together that he is looking for more minutes and more game time in another club. The challenge was clear that he needs to fight his way through.

“Right now things are not going as he maybe wishes and we all wish for. But now is not the moment to already give solutions and cancel the whole project.

“Sometimes these weeks and months arrive when the situation seems to be stuck or it seems not to go the right way. You have to hang in there, you have to show your quality and you have to make sure you help your team, no matter where it is. That sharpens your character. That will be making a big chapter in your career.

“For me right now it is not the moment to already give solutions for January and open the talks to bring him back. Now it is November and there is still a lot of time to prove that he has enough quality to help Norwich to be a better team.”
