Chelsea star hits back at Man Utd legend Scholes over Ronaldo claim

Chelsea defender Thiago Silva has hit back at comments Paul Scholes made in the lead up to their match against Man Utd on Sunday.

The centre-back has started eight of the Blues 13 Premier League matches this season with Thomas Tuchel’s side currently possessing the best defensive record in the Premier League.

Chelsea have only conceded five goals in the league so far this term with Antonio Rudiger, Trevoh Chalobah and others also in great form.

Scholes said that it would be easy for Man Utd star Cristiano Ronaldo to face Silva during United’s trip to Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Ronaldo didn’t even start the match, coming on for the last 27 minutes as Man Utd held Chelsea to a 1-1 draw in the Premier League.

“According to Paul Scholes, facing Thiago Silva would have been easy for Cristiano Ronaldo,” wrote Chelsea fan account ChelseaPulse on Instagram.

To which Silva responded: “It is always easy, especially for those who have stopped playing!!”

And it’s not the first time Man Utd legend Scholes has given Chelsea defenders stick despite their brilliant defensive record.

Speaking on an episode of The Overlap, Scholes said: “I think [Antonio] Rudiger’s been really good but, other than that, you’ve got Thiago Silva who’s 36 or 37, Andreas Christensen’s a young player… I think in the middle of the pitch you’re alright. Jorginho and [N’Golo] Kante are really good players.

“I’m just not sure that Chelsea score enough goals and that they’re defensively good enough.”

Meanwhile, Chelsea have been drawn to face Auckland City, Al Jazira or Al Hilal in the semi-finals of the FIFA Club World Cup.

The tournament takes place between February 3 and 12 next year in the United Arab Emirates.

Tuchel’s side will enter the competition at the last-four stage after beating Premier League rivals Manchester City in last season’s Champions League final.

Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal will play the winner of the opening match between hosts Al Jazira and New Zealand side Auckland, with the Blues awaiting the victors of that subsequent second-round clash.
