Man Utd have closed their training ground for 24 hours and they are “in discussions” to postpone Tuesday night’s game versus Brentford.
It was revealed on Sunday afternoon that their midweek clash against Brentford was in doubt. This came as they returned a “small number” of positive lateral flow tests.
United have now announced that they have closed their training ground in an attempt to limit the spread of the virus.

Man Utd are due to travel to face Brentford on Tuesday evening. The Red Devils are hopeful that this game is postponed.
In a statement released via their official website, United revealed that the affected players and staff are now isolating:
“Manchester United can confirm that following PCR test confirmation of yesterday’s positive LFT Covid-19 cases among the first team staff and players, the decision has been taken to close down first team operations at the Carrington Training Complex for 24 hours, to minimise risk of any further infection.
“Individuals who tested positive are isolating per Premier League protocols.
“Given cancellation of training and disruption to the squad, and with the health of players and staff the priority, the Club is in discussion with the Premier League whether it is safe for Tuesday’s fixture against Brentford to continue, both from a Covid infection and player preparation perspective.
“Team and staff travel to London will be deferred pending the result of that discussion.”
Speaking on Monday morning, Brentford boss Thomas Frank said he was “preparing” for the game versus Man Utd to go ahead:
“We are planning to play the game. That’s what we are focusing on. We can’t control anything else.
“I think it needs to be a significant amount of Covid cases before the game can be cancelled but to be fair I’m a little bit in doubt when it is enough.”
“It’s a very tricky situation. I think it’s very important the Premier League and all of us are following normal society rules and restrictions. That’s very important.
“And then if we can make it very clear what the rules are to cancel a game that would be good.
“I am 100 per cent sure the Premier League will continue through the winter. I have no doubt about that. That’s why we have the vaccine and the boosters. We will continue, no doubt about that.
“Honestly, I’m pretty sure we’re close to giving the players their booster jabs. I don’t know, but I know we have a lot of players vaccinated. We heard on the radio about there soon being one million jabs a day. That’s a lot so I guess that’s also for our players.”
