Eriksen poised for PL return this week, just months after cardiac arrest

Christian Eriksen could seal a remarkable return to the Premier League as soon as this week, according to reports.

The former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder hasn’t played since June when he suffered a cardiac arrest in the Euro 2020 clash between Denmark and Finland.

Many feared the 29-year-old could be forced to retire, but after being fitted with a pacemaker, he has been slowly building up his fitness with his former club Odense.

The record sale progression of every Premier League club

According to The Times, he is now prepared for a return to elite football, and has been approached by several unnamed Premier League clubs.

Eriksen has also received offers from other clubs across Europe, but his preference is a return to England, where he made 305 appearances in a seven-year spell at Tottenham.

The Dane is a free agent after having his Inter Milan contract terminated due to rules in Italy regarding pacemakers.

Speaking earlier this month, Spurs boss Antonio Conte insisted ‘the door is always open’ for Eriksen at the club.

“I didn’t speak recently with Christian,” he said. “For sure, it was great, it was fine, to see him on a pitch, to see that he is kicking a ball. We are talking about a really important player. But especially a top man.

“What happened this summer was not good, not good, for the people that worked with him, and the people that know him. I was scared in that moment.

“And now, to see him again ready to play football is great news. I think for Christian, the door is always open.”

Eriksen is keen to get back in the Denmark squad ahead of the World Cup in Qatar later this year. He said recently: “My goal is to play in the World Cup in Qatar.

“I want to play. That’s been my mindset all along. It’s a goal, a dream. Whether I’ll be picked is another thing. But it’s my dream to come back.

“I’m sure I can come back because I don’t feel any different. Physically, I’m back in top shape. That’s been my goal and it’s still some time away, so until then I’m just going to play football and prove that I’m back at the same level.”
