Evra slams Carragher over his ‘hate’ for Man Utd star Ronaldo

Patrice Evra thinks Jamie Carragher and other critics of Cristiano Ronaldo should “stay in their line” after Man Utd beat Arsenal 3-2.

The Portugal international reached 800 career goals as his brace helped secure a much-needed victory for the Red Devils against the Gunners, as interim manager Ralf Rangnick saw his new side triumph from the stands.

Ronaldo has faced criticism this season for not pressing with the rest of the team but there can be no arguments about his goalscoring record since returning to Old Trafford.

Carrick leaves Manchester United with his head held high

The 36-year-old has bagged 12 goals in 16 matches in all competitions after he swapped Juventus for Man Utd in the summer transfer window.

Despite that, Carragher and other pundits have been critical of the signing of Ronaldo with the former Liverpool defender predicting back in September that he would have a “negative effect”.

Speaking after United’s victory over Arsenal, Evra called out Carragher on Amazon Prime Video: “There’s a lot of talk about this player, and I already don’t understand it.

“Some players like Jamie Carragher, he had I think 775 games, Cristiano today scored 801 goals, and those kind of people talk about Cristiano.

“Sometimes I think people just have to stay in their line, and I just don’t understand that hate.

“Some people just wake up and want to talk about Cristiano.”

Meanwhile, Michael Carrick – who left Man Utd on Thursday night – has praised Ronaldo for his professionalism during his three matches as caretaker boss.

“It’s been great to see how he’s developed and matured,” Carrick said. “He was a lot younger (when they were teammates), as we all were, and to see how he’s gone full circle and, not quite yet in his career, but is coming towards the later stages, just seeing how he goes about his business, his mentality, his attitude, his quality, to score so many goals, it’s incredible.

“He’s been terrific this week, especially for me, the things I’ve asked of him and the way he’s gone about his business around the place, he’s been absolutely top drawer.

“No surprise he goes and scores again tonight. Perfect ending really.”
