Ex-player cannot see Chelsea star Rudiger wanting to join Man Utd

Soon-to-be out of contract Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger would be against joining Man Utd, according to former Red Devil Paul Parker.

The Blues centre-back joined them in 2017 from Serie A outfit Roma. They paid around £29m to sign him.

The 28-year-old has been heavily relied upon by Thomas Tuchel since he replaced Frank Lampard earlier this year.

Rudiger’s future is in doubt as his current deal at Chelsea is due to expire in 2022. He has been linked with a move to Man Utd in recent weeks.

Parker does not see Rudiger joining United, though. He believes that the “ambitious” defender would eye a move elsewhere:

“If you’re Rudiger and you’re ambitious, as he is, you can see it by the way he plays – he plays the game angry, he’s a frustrated midfielder and centre-forward, he wants to do everything,” Parker told BettingExpert, as cited by Manchester Evening News.

“If he’s that ambitious, does he really want to go to Man Utd at this moment in time? You’d have to say no.

“The chances of Man Utd winning things before Chelsea are very, very slim.

“If he wants to go to one of the biggest clubs in the world and be known even more so as a German player playing for Manchester United and everyone knows him, then there’s no better club.

“It’s good (Antonio Rudiger’s links to Man Utd) because if you think about it, Manchester United should have the biggest squad in the world, with the amount of players they get mentioned with.”

Elsewhere, John Barnes has claimed that Frenkie De Jong is a good replacement for Paul Pogba:

“Frenkie de Jong would be a brilliant signing for Manchester United,’ Barnes told BonusCodeBets, as cited by The Metro.

“It looks like Paul Pogba is on his way out of the club. So bringing in a replacement for him is very important.

“Especially if that person is a young and talented player who will get the opportunity to be one of the main players at the club.

“He has everything in terms of passing range, intensity and a great attitude. It’s exactly what Manchester United need in midfield.

“That was their plan with Donny Van de Beek. But of course he’s been stifled by other players in his position playing better than him.

“However, bringing de Jong in and putting him straight into the side and being trusted would be good for both Manchester United and him.”
