‘Fresh Man Utd dressing room revolt’ after Rangnick ‘bust-up’

Ralf Rangnick is facing more dressing room issues after he upset some Man Utd players with his treatment of Jesse Lingard, according to reports.

Newcastle were in discussions over a loan move for Lingard towards the end of the transfer window but baulked at the fee requested by the Red Devils should the England international help them stave off relegation from the Premier League.

West Ham – where he enjoyed a successful loan last year – and Tottenham were also among the other clubs to have expressed interest in a player interim boss Rangnick reportedly gave his blessing to leave.

However, the Man Utd board apparently blocked any potential move away from Old Trafford after Mason Greenwood was arrested.

Lingard was left out as United were dumped out of the FA Cup by Middlesbrough on penalties after Rangnick claimed the forward had asked for time off to “clear up his mind”, a claim Lingard himself has denied.

The Daily Mirror claim that Rangnick ‘is facing a player revolt at Manchester United after doubling down on his claim that Jesse Lingard demanded to be left out of his squad’.

When asked whether he regretted his decision to make do without Lingard against Boro, Rangnick said: “And with regard to Jesse, I told you what my information was and my knowledge was, and of course I would have loved to have Jesse in the squad.

“We were one outfield player less on the team sheet today, so why should I have allowed him to have four or five days off?

“I would have loved to have had him in the squad and be in the squad, but it was not the case and therefore it doesn’t make sense to speak about players who were not available.”

The Daily Mirror add that, by sticking to his explanation over Lingard, Rangnick has upset the players in the Old Trafford dressing room.

The report point to a ‘similar bust-up with Anthony Martial last month’ and insist that ‘some senior United players believe such problems should be addressed in-house.’

His squad ‘can’t understand why Rangnick has chosen to go public with sensitive team issues’ with an Man Utd insider saying: “It isn’t the United way to voice these issues in the media.

“This is a time to stick together, not go public with things that might cause division.”
