Arsenal have offered Dusan Vlahovic silly money to move to the Premier League this month, while Newcastle have turned their attention to a Germany-based defender…
ARSENAL TO PAY VLAHOVIC HUGE WAGES
It seems the rest of Arsenal’s winter window will revolve around two Serie A-based stars. One more likely to sign than the other…
The dream for Mikel Arteta would be to land Dusan Vlahovic this month, rather than wait until the summer. The Fiorentina striker is out of contract at the end of the season and though the Italian club would rather wait until then to sell, Arsenal are said to be trying to tempt them into a deal this month.
Vlahovic’s agents seem to be milking the moment for all it is worth, demanding huge commission for both the prospect of a renewal or a big move. Those representatives may be open to Arsenal’s latest offer.
According to La Nazione, the Gunners are prepared to make the 21-year-old their highest-paid player with a salary worth £308,000 a week. Which sounds like big money for a player many of us haven’t seen play.
Five £50m+ Premier League targets we have never seen play
JUVE MAKE COUNTER-OFFER OVER ARTHUR
Arsenal’s other leading target is Arthur Melo. And it sounds as though the Brazilian is similarly keen to make the move happen.
Arthur has been a peripheral figure in Juve’s squad this season, managing only four starts in Serie A. In the league for Juve, he hasn’t completed 90 minutes since the start of last February.
So it is no wonder that, according to Gazzetta dello Sport, the midfielder is ‘pressing to pack his bags’ amid Arsenal’s interest.
But Juventus may need some convincing. Their desire to bring in a replacement first has been well documented, and Fabrizio Romano says the Old Lady is pushing for a longer commitment from Arsenal than they might like…
The Gunners are prepared to take Arthur until the end of the season, but Juve want Arsenal to take the 25-year-old for next season too, with the option to buy.
BAYERN SET TO SELL LEWANDOWSKI
If Arsenal don’t land Vlahovic this month, then Robert Lewanowdoski could be available come the summer.
The 33-year-old goal machine has only 18 months left on his contract at Bayern Munich and the Bavarians are starting to ponder life after the Poland star.
According to Sport Bild, Lewandowski fancies four more years at the highest level and the terms on offer to renew at Bayern don’t yet meet his demands. If no agreement is reached before the summer, then Bayern will cash in on their centre-forward rather than risk him walking away for nothing at the end of his deal.
MAN UTD WANT MORE FOR LINGARD
‘How’s Newcastle’s January splurge going?’, you ask…
Not great. The big line out of the North East yesterday was their interest in signing Jesse Lingard on loan. Apparently, the Magpies are willing to give Manchester United £2million to take the England attacker for the rest of the season, at the end of which he will become a free-agent.
But the Daily Mail reckons the Red Devils have rejected Newcastle’s offer because, well, who knows why United do anything.
However, it seems like bargaining ploy, with Talksport claiming United will accept £3.5million if the Toon were to up their offer.
TOON TAKE BAKKER CONTROL
Newcastle already face a battle over Diego Carlos, despite having tabled a bid for the Sevilla defender.
Carlos played 90 minutes for the Spanish side last night in their draw with Valencia, despite Sky Sports reporting that another Premier League club has matches the Magpies’ £30million offer for the 28-year-old.
Eddie Howe desperately needs at least one centre-back, and ideally a left-sided defender before the window closes.
Mitchel Bakker could be Howe’s new left-back, with the Daily Mail claiming that Bayer Leverkusen have been receptive to Newcastle’s offer of £14.5million, which would represent a tidy profit on a player they bought for £8million from PSG only last summer.
