Gossip: Man United to replace Cavani with £17m striker?

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Edinson Cavani are among the players wanted by Barcelona. The latter could be replaced by a 21-year-old Argentine…

AUBA WANTED BY BARCELONA
‘Barcelona have been alerted by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s exile at Arsenal and would be interested in signing him on loan next month,’ according to the Daily Mail, who say that the Gabonese striker’s £350,000-a-week wages would present a problem for the absolute financial sh*tshow that is Barcelona right now.

They need two strikers in January but they will certainly be cheaper options than Aubameyang, though the idea that they would sign Ferran Torres for £50m seems fanciful. So why not go for another ageing Premier League striker instead…

MARTIAL OR CAVANI OUT
Alternatively, Barcelona want Edinson Cavani in January but Manchester United will only sell one striker and they would – quite understandably – prefer to sell Anthony Martial to Newcastle for actual money (though reports on Sunday suggested they would pay a £6m loan fee rather than the hefty sum required for a permanent move).

So according to SPORT, Barca are left in limbo because they want Cavani but United will not leave themselves silly short in the striker department as even Ronaldo cannot play every single minute of every game. Barcelona are worried that the Uruguayan has not played since October but have been assured that he is nearing full fitness.

ALVAREZ A TARGET?
Manchester United have joined the race to sign River Plate striker Julian Alvarez, according to Argentine publication Ole. He has scored a remarkable 18 goals in 21 games this season – earning himself a call-up to the national team – so it’s little wonder that clubs are interested. It has been said that United have ‘put in a call’ about Alvarez, who can leave for just £17m, which seems a little like a bargain.

But United are certainly not alone in being interested with – deep breath – Bayern Munich, Juventus, Atletico Madrid, AC Milan, Inter, Bayer Leverkusen and Barcelona all linked with Alvarez. He is available on a free transfer in 12 months’ time but it seems unlikely that clubs will not pounce for just £17m; that would be chump change to United.
