Guardiola: Man City trio will be fined for not inviting me on night out

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has joked that some of his players will be fined for not inviting him on a night out.

Footage has emerged on social media of players including Jack Grealish, Riyad Mahrez and Kyle Walker outside a venue in Manchester city centre on Sunday. There were claims Grealish was denied entry.

Grealish and Phil Foden were reportedly disciplined after arriving at training in a poor state following a night out in December but Guardiola has no issues on this occasion.

The City boss said: “I’m so upset – because they didn’t invite me! I don’t like it. Hopefully next time they can invite me and do the dinner correctly at 8 o’clock.

“The video didn’t show exactly what happened – dinner together, sober, enjoying (time) with their mates and some of the backroom staff.

“The players know there is a risk when they go out today because of social media but all of them – Riyad, Kyle, Ally (Marland, staff), Jack were perfect. But they will be fined because they didn’t invite me!”

Asked if he felt the players had been unfairly treated over this incident, Guardiola said: “In this case, yes.”

Elsewhere, Barcelona new boy Adama Traore has been heavily criticised on Spanish television by former Atletico Madrid manager Jorge D’Alessandro.

The Spain international left Wolves to join the La Liga giants on loan until the end of the season during the January transfer window.

Traore provided an assist for Gavi during his second debut for Barcelona as the Blaugrana beat Atletico Madrid 4-2 at the Nou Camp.

However, ex-player and manager D’Alessandro is not convinced by the 26-year-old, likening him to a boxer as opposed to a footballer.

“I didn’t see a superior Barca. Adama Traore, a player with a lot of strength, one on one, it was like a boxing match,” D’Alessandro said (quotes via the Daily Mail).

“Where is the talent? Where is the subtlety of dribbling? Where is the ability to dribble? Going through with just strength… but what kind of football is that? Football is strength? Football is details.

“I don’t like that. I see that as a soldier. I haven’t seen the Premier League. He’s a sub, behind [Francisco] Trincao. You can keep Adama Traore.”
