‘Here we go!’ – Romano provides crucial update on Ten Hag-Man Utd

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Erik ten Hag is set to be announced as Manchester United’s new manager in the next few days.

The Red Devils have been without a permanent manager since November. Ralf Rangnick has been their interim boss since the start of December.

Along with Ten Hag, they have been heavily linked with former Tottenham Hotspur chief Mauricio Pochettino.

Ten Hag has helped Ajax win the Eredivisie title twice since 2017. He has also lifted the KNVB Cup on two occasions.

Romano has revealed via Twitter that the Dutchman has won the race to become United’s new manager.

The respected journalist has declared that a contract agreement is “now set to be completed”.

Ajax and Man Utd are now discussing a €2m clause that would release Ten Hag from his contract. A deal is due to be announced in the next few days.

Man Utd travel to Anfield to face Liverpool on Tuesday. Ahead of this game, Rangnick has suggested that Jurgen Klopp is one of the best coaches in the world:

“He is one of the best, if not the best coach. Not only now, but in the last couple of years. It is no coincidence what has happened,” Rangnick said (via Manchester Evening News).

“They brought in the right players and got rid of the right players. That is why they are where they are.”

Rangnick also believes United have to be “more compact and aggressive” if they are to beat Liverpool:

“As I said after the game [Norwich], we need to be more compact, we need to find the right balance of what we do in possession of the ball and what we need to do in order to defend our own goal.

“For sure, we need to be more compact, more aggressive, more on the front foot but still make sure we have all the players behind the ball.

“This is what we need to show tomorrow against a team that is probably one of the best – if not the best – in creating moments which they can be dangerous from in and around the box.

“We need to be at our very best defensively but still have a formation and approach to the game that we can be dangerous ourselves.”
