Hoddle suspects Spurs are ‘onto something good’ under Conte

Tottenham Hotspur legend Glenn Hoddle suspects his former club are “onto something good” under Antonio Conte.

The former Chelsea boss was confirmed as Nuno Espirito Santo’s successor at Spurs at the start of November.

Tottenham have fared well under Conte so far. They are yet to lose in the Premier League from his five games in charge.

One man cannot criticise Spurs v Liverpool ref in good faith

The Londoners did not play for a fortnight as a result of a Covid-19 outbreak in their camp. But they were back in action on Sunday as they hosted Liverpool.

The Premier League rivals played out an enthralling 2-2 draw at The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Hoddle has told the Premier League official website that Conte’s tactics were “absolutely spot on” against Liverpool:

“I think he’s onto something good. Today was brave. He’s got his tactics absolutely spot on. They could have been three up before Liverpool even started,” Hoddle said.

“Liverpool didn’t do anything about it. You saw how many times they got in behind today. It’s growing, you can see there’s some progression there and I think given a bit of time, there’s some success around the corner.”

Elsewhere, Gary Neville has suggested that Spurs will “strike fear” into the likes of Man Utd and Arsenal:

“He’s a great manager, you can see the influence he’s had on this group,” Neville said.

“The energy compared to how they were before, the stadium is electric – and it was brilliant in here all the way through the game.

“You can see him on the touchline. The emotions. He cares passionately and is desperate to win.

“He’ll be disappointed with the chances missed because I think he set up his team perfectly, but also proud and realise he’s got a good group of players here.

“We started to question that over the last 12-18 months.

“Were this team over the hill and were they spent under Mauricio Pochettino and as good as it can get?

“But they’ve shown a performance today that can tell us they can really be competitive and push for the top four.

“It will strike a little bit of fear into Chelsea, Manchester United, Arsenal, West Ham, all the others with aspirations to be up there.

“This Tottenham team are going to be real in the next four to five months.”
