‘Impatient’ Man Utd star instructs agent to ‘close’ Real transfer

Man Utd striker Cristiano Ronaldo has told his agent Jorge Mendes to seal a move to Real Madrid, according to reports in Spain.

The Portugal international has scored 14 goals in 24 appearances in all competitions for the Red Devils after rejoining the club from Juventus in the summer transfer window.

Man Utd are now up to fourth following a last-gasp 1-0 victory over West Ham before the recent break, but they are still falling short of Ronaldo’s ambition to win the Premier League title and other trophies this season.

Ralf Rangnick’s side were dumped out of the FA Cup against Middlesbrough in the fourth round on Friday after Anthony Elanga missed the crucial spot-kick in the penalty shoot-out.

That means the only trophy on offer for Ronaldo and Man Utd this season is now the Champions League and, with their performances this campaign, that seems like a long shot.

There have been rumours that Mason Greenwood’s recent arrest has stoked further divisions within the squad, while some players are reportedly unhappy about Rangnick’s treatment of Jesse Lingard.

And now Spanish publication Nacional insist that Ronaldo has had enough and has asked Mendes ‘to close his return to Real Madrid’ this summer.

Ronaldo is said to be ‘living a real ordeal’ at Man Utd currently and with Rangnick ‘preparing a real revolution’ the Portugal international is ‘looking for a club’ before he is pushed out of Old Trafford.

Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid are the most likely options but Nacional reckons he will only move to PSG if Lionel Messi ‘leaves’.

Los Blancos are said to be ‘attentive’ to Ronaldo with the 37-year-old ‘accepting that he would no longer be the star’ at the Bernabeu.

Ronaldo is ‘convinced that in the long run he would make a place in the starting eleven’ and he is now ‘waiting impatiently’ for Mendes to seal the deal.

Meanwhile, former Premier League striker Carlton Cole has questioned whether Ronaldo was the right signing for Man Utd in the summer.

“Who is in that changing room and actually leading by example? Yes, Ronaldo does it, but he came out the other day saying most of these young boys don’t listen. It’s a different era now and they respond to other things.

“What motivates these players? Is it money? Winning trophies? I can’t see it.

“It’s a weird place to be for a team like Man United to have no drive and no passion. It’s just a weird place to see them. I can’t see where they’re going to get this leader from.

“I got slated for saying this about Cristiano Ronaldo before, that he’s come in and taken all the attention away from what Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was doing.

“I’m not saying that he’s not going to score you goals, he scores a bag of goals, but was he the right thing for Man United? Was he the right thing for that team?”
