Jordan labels Man Utd stars ‘herberts’ as he makes Rangnick prediction

Simon Jordan has labelled Manchester United stars as “herberts” but he believes Ralf Rangnick can guide them to a top four finish this season.

The former RB Leipzig and Schalke boss was confirmed as Man Utd’s new interim manager on Monday.

His appointment comes after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer left the club just over a week ago.

Rangnick takes charge until the end of the 2021/22 season. He will then take up a consultancy role for another two years.

Man Utd are currently eighth in the Premier League and they are five points adrift of fourth-placed West Ham.

Danny Murphy and Jordan have been discussing Man Utd’s top four chances with talkSPORT:

“I think they probably will. Only because the competition isn’t great,” Murphy said when asked if Man Utd will finish in the top four.

Jordan added: “It depends if [Rangnick] can get his message across to these herberts, because they’re good enough.

“If he gets his message across then yes.”

Elsewhere, former Man Utd star Dimitar Berbatov has backed Rangnick to succeed:

“He’s highly respected in the football world, however with all due respect. He has managed teams like Schalke, Stuttgart and Leipzig, but he has never managed really big teams,” Berbatov said.

“United is one of the biggest clubs in the world, so this is going to be something new to him. It’s going to be interesting to see how he will cope with that situation.

“I thought Manchester United would give the interim manager’s position to Michael Carrick for the rest of the season, but when you have someone like Ralf Rangnick, who has such a great reputation and is reportedly set to be appointed, interested in the role he would have been difficult not to consider.

“It did come as a surprise to me, as I wanted Carrick to have the chance to show what he could do, but Rangnick is not someone you can overlook.

“It would be no surprise, if he makes a success of the next few months, to see him get offered the permanent position and, if not, he will work well as an advisor.”
