Roy Keane and Ian Wright think Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher was lucky to avoid a sending off against Cardiff City on Sunday.

The 18-year-old marked his return from almost five months out with a fracture dislocation in September with a brilliant swivelled finish in front of the Kop.

It rounded off the scoring for the hosts after Diogo Jota’s 15th of the season was followed by Takumi Minamino’s low drive – set up by new £37.5million signing Luis Diaz, who gave Anfield a glimpse of what he can offer with an encouraging 30-minute cameo on debut.

There were a few moments of controversy though with Kelleher catching a Cardiff player when he came rushing out of his penalty area in the opening minutes of the second half.
Kelleher was given a yellow card for the foul on Mark Harris with VAR looking at the incident but deciding the tackle didn’t warrant a sending off.
But Wright and Keane disagreed, with duo of the view that the Liverpool goalkeeper got away with one against Steve Morison’s men.
“I think Konate probably gets round, but they (VAR) must have been looking at the challenge,” Wright said on ITV Sport.
“The challenge is something that he probably could have got sent off for.”
Keane added: “He’s not in control, is he. He’s got very, very lucky with the sending off, and it could have been a bad injury.
“He’s got the benefit of the doubt, it’s one of those where sometimes the home team gets it. Very lucky.”
Wright concluded: “I don’t think they got it right, for the foul play he could have got sent off for that.”
Despite that incident, former Manchester United midfielder Keane was very complimentary about the young Irish goalkeeper.
“Keane said: He’s obviously done very well for himself. Martin (O’Neil) brought him into the senior squad when we were with Ireland and what you’d say about him is he has a fantastic temperament and that’s what you need to be a good goalkeeper particularly at the big clubs.
“He’s done very well, great with his feet, a real maturity about him when he came into the Irish squad when I was there with Martin – a real nice presence about him.
“He wasn’t giddy around the place, his training, his attitude was spot on and it’s good to see him get some minutes for Liverpool.”
