Klopp addresses ‘normal spell’ Salah is ‘going through’ at Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp thinks it is “completely normal” for Liverpool forward Mo Salah to suffer from a goal drought ahead of their match with Manchester United.

The Egypt international has only scored one goal in his last ten matches in all competitions for the Reds after hitting 27 goals in all competitions before that run.

He was criticised in the Mailbox for having a ‘stinker’ against Manchester City in their 3-2 FA Cup semi-final victory on Saturday but Klopp thinks it is just a matter of time before he hits the back of the net again.

Quad-chasing Liverpool inevitably top Winners and Losers…

Klopp told a pre-match press conference on Monday: “It’s a completely normal spell he is going through. We’ve spoken about the physical demands. I liked the game against [Manchester] City a lot, it was a really good football game, only a question of time before he scores again. He’s been close enough a couple of times.

“We have had plenty of talks over the time we have worked together and at this specific moment there is no need to talk about the situation, just the normal stuff about what he has to do in the game and all these kind of things.”

With Liverpool still looking to win an unprecedented quadruple this season Klopp has little time to train his team in between games as the fixtures pile up.

But Klopp insists they are now used to it, he said: “We’ve been in this situation since January – we are used to it. Recovery sessions, one session today – then we play tomorrow. The longest part of today will be sitting here in the media room!

“As long as you are successful, you don’t have the time. It is pretty demanding – I would love to have more time but that is wishful thinking. The boys are always ready to prepare as good as they can. For 3/4 teams in the league, it is the same.

“If we achieve anything this year it’s because of how all the boys deal with the situation, including the boys not in the squad from time to time, they keep still their training quality at a high level.”
