Klopp admits he has ‘no idea what to expect’ from Tottenham

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has admitted he doesn’t know what to expect from Tottenham ahead of their clash on Sunday afternoon.

Spurs haven’t played since the fifth of December, initially due to a Covid outbreak in the squad before Thursday’s fixture with Leicester was called off due to more Covid issues, this time in the Foxes’ camp.

One One Of Our Own per club: From Kane to Foden to TAA

This means Antonio Conte has taken charge of just four Premier League games as Spurs boss, leaving Klopp unaware of what to expect form his opposition.

The German manager is also in the dark over who will be available for Conte’s side.

“I have no idea what to expect from them [Tottenham]. After this news conference we will have an analyst meeting with old footage. We have no information. For them it is difficult as well. Who does not want to play for two weeks and then have to play again.

“More transparency would be really helpful. We know that three players are probably not going to be available.

“I heard Manchester United had a number of cases but I don’t know how many. I had no information on who had the virus at Tottenham.”

Liverpool come into the clash on the back of a 3-1 win over Newcastle, a win that was sealed with a stunning effort from Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Klopp praised the full-back, revealing his side change their plans to suit the England international.

“We adapt our games to his skills. He puts his skills in our different plans. He plays a different position on the pitch compared to the beginning because he’s a more mature and confident player, he’s much more settled in all different parts of the game.

“He is a lot of things for us and he enjoys it, he enjoys himself on the pitch, but it’s tough, he’s still young and it’s an intense period.

“It was one of his best goals last night but not one of his best games. He had two game-defining moments. Even when not everything is clicking, you can be the decisive man and he was.”

Klopp also lauded the performances of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain who has returned to form in recent weeks.

“It has been the best Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain since I have been here.

“I know he has had some spectacular moments. But it is a new quality, calming the game down and being really involved in all the things on the pitch. It is a massive step. I am really happy with him at the moment.”
