Lampard wants Spurs outcast as ‘ambitious plan’ sways Everton

Frank Lampard wants to sign Dele Alli at Everton before the close of the January transfer window.

Lampard came through a second round of interviews ahead of Vitor Pereira and Duncan Ferguson to succeed Rafa Benitez at Goodison Park, and is expected to be officially announced as the new Toffees boss imminently.

Fabrizio Romano claimed on Saturday that Lampard wants Manchester United wantaway Donny van de Beek as his first signing as Everton boss, but The Sun believe he’s going after Dele Alli.

Both signings coud be on the cards, with Lampard impressing majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri and chairman Bill Kenwright with his ‘ambitious plans for an immediate raid into the market’ ahead of Monday night’s transfer window deadline.

Alli has started eight Premier League games this season, scoring one goal, but just two under Antonio Conte, who is keen to get him off the pay roll in order to make moves in January.

Newcastle and Paris Saint-Germain have also been linked with the England international, with a loan move now thought to be most likely.

With the World Cup in Qatar later this year, a move away would offer Alli the opportunity to work his way back into Gareth Southgate’s squad.

And former Premier League boss Neil Warnock claims the 25-year-old must leave Spurs to show his quality.

“He’s got to go,” Warnock said.

“I’ll be honest with you, though, when you look at Dele Alli, if you put him in Man City’s team you would see a different player.

“You’ve got to have a decent back line to start with. Tottenham haven’t had a decent back line for ages.

“He roves in a No.10 role and he’s as good as anything when he was. But they’re not getting that ball, they’re having to fight for everything to get a look in.

“They are not good enough at the back, so it opens all the positions. That’s why he’s got to go.

“He will find somewhere as he’s a good player when he’s on, but he’s just gone backwards.”
