Hakim Ziyech’s second-half goal was enough to edge Chelsea past Malmo on Tuesday evening.
Blues head coach Thomas Tuchel brought captain Cesar Azpilicueta, Marcos Alonso and Ruben Loftus-Cheek back into the starting XI.
Wing-backs Reece James and Ben Chilwell were dropped to the bench by the German, with no place in the squad for N’Golo Kante, who started Saturday’s 3-0 win over Newcastle.
Christian Pulisic was named among the substitutes after recovering from an ankle injury. The attacker has not featured since the opening day success over Crystal Palace.
Spurs are repeating obvious Chelsea mistake with Conte deal
Hakim Ziyech broke the deadlock for Chelsea in the 56th minute in Malmo.
The Blues had been frustrated during the first half and boss Thomas Tuchel reacted by swapping Callum Hudson-Odoi to the right where he had an instant impact.
Hudson-Odoi played a one-two with Kai Havertz near the halfway line and got away down the right where he produced a perfectly-weighted centre for Ziyech to tap home at the back post for his second goal of the season.
