Manchester United will call on Sir Alex Ferguson’s former No. 2 Mike Phelan to help unify the ‘broken’ dressing room, according to reports.
Phelan enjoyed terrific success as Ferguson’s assistant manager and is currently part of the first-team set-up after re-joining the Red Devils in 2019.
The 59-year-old does not attend training sessions as interim manager Ralf Rangnick confirmed upon his arrival.

“Mike Phelan is not watching the training sessions – he also didn’t do that when Ole was in charge – but he’s also part of the training group of the staff,” the United boss said.
“But he is never on the pitch when we train. He’s not out there and he didn’t do that when Ole was in charge.”
Amid rumours that numerous players are unhappy at Old Trafford, Rangnick will be keen to avoid a crisis within the club.

In order to do so, the German will call upon Phelan to ‘help unify the dressing room’ after the pair had a ‘two-hour discussion’ about the situation, according to the Telegraph (via The Sun).
He is seen as the perfect man to ‘build bridges in a dressing room’ which is said to be in disarray.
A Sun source said: “The players have their own cliques, one of which is making the others feel like they need to step up a level when it is the whole team that’s struggling.
“The players are demoralised. There is a belief within one section of the squad that some players get selected, regardless of their displays.
“So everything is a complete shambles.”
Meanwhile, Harry Maguire, Edinson Cavani and Mason Greenwood have all expressed their frustration at Cristiano Ronaldo’s status at Man Utd, according to the Daily Express.
It is understood that Maguire, Cavani and Greenwood ‘have found the undroppable presence of Cristiano Ronaldo a challenge to their expected roles’ while ‘there is frustration from some others about the influence he holds over international team-mates and other Portuguese-speaking players’.
