Man Utd ‘confident’ of replacing Ole as release clause is revealed

Man Utd are getting more confident that they will replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers, according to reports.

Recent heavy defeats to Liverpool and Man City have piled the pressure on Solskjaer, who has failed to win a trophy during his near-three years in charge at Old Trafford.

United’s 2-0 loss to City in their last match before the international break means they have now been defeated in four of their last six Premier League matches and have only won three of their last ten fixtures in all competitions.

That has led to rumours that Solskjaer could be replaced soon at Man Utd, although widespread reports claim he will be in charge for their next match against Watford in the Premier League.

Former RB Leipzig head coach Ralf Rangnick has been linked as a short-term option until the end of the season, while Rodgers, Zinedine Zidane and Paris Saint-Germain’s Mauricio Pochettino have all been mooted.

And now the Daily Star claim that Man Utd are ‘growing increasingly confident of being able to make Brendan Rodgers their next manager’.

It is understood that the Red Devils board are ‘keen to appoint a British boss’ if they are forced to sack Solskjaer because of poor results.

Rodgers ‘would find the chance to manage United almost impossible to turn down’ and the former Liverpool boss is ‘believed to have a release clause in his contract should a Champions League club come calling’.

Meanwhile, former Liverpool left-back John Arne Riise claims the Man Utd players “don’t seem to care” despite mounting pressure on Solskjaer.

“I do feel for him. As a person, of course, but he’s stepped into one of the biggest jobs in the world,” Riise said on talkSPORT.

“And when things are not going well, like they are now, it’s so easy to learn and manage it but, at the same time, I’ve watched the last three or four games of Man Utd and the attitude from the players – you can’t always blame the manager for everything.

“Look at the aggression, the tightness, the willingness to fight for the club – it’s not there from the players, and that annoys me because like, myself, I was not the most technical player, but at least I gave 110%, no matter how I was playing.

“Look at the Man Utd players now, they don’t seem to care. Maybe the players are not happy with how training is going. How they play tactically in training what Solskjaer is doing before the games.

“But, at the end of the day, they get paid a lot of money to do the job and to support the manager and to play for the fans.

“If that happened when I was playing, I know Stevie [Gerrard], Jamie Carragher would just smash us!”
