Man Utd hone in on two targets as Rangnick targets a midfielder

Man Utd are interested in Marseille’s Boubacar Kamara and Wolves’ Ruben Neves in their quest to sign a new midfielder, according to reports.

The Red Devils lost 1-0 against Wolves on Monday night as they stayed in seventh position in the Premier League table with half of the season gone.

There are currently numerous issues for at Man Utd but a lot of the blame for poor performances over the last couple of seasons have been put at the door of midfield duo Scott McTominay and Fred.

Many supporters, fans and former players don’t believe United will win major honours before they drastically improve their midfield.

That has seen them linked to numerous midfielders from around world football, from £100m-rated Declan Rice at West Ham to Franck Kessie on a free transfer from AC Milan.

But now Sky Sports claim that Marseille’s Kamara and Wolves’ Neves are two players they are paying particularly close attention to in their hunt for a midfielder.

Kamara, who is also interesting Newcastle and Roma,  is out of contract in the summer and can currently agree a pre-contract agreement with a club outside of France.

The priority at Man Utd ‘remains the summer transfer window but the club are open to doing business this month if a long-term target becomes available.’

Meanwhile, former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan has accused a number of Man Utd players of not living up to their huge price tags.

“There’s no fear of Manchester United, it’s gone,” Jordan told talkSPORT. “Whatever fear there was and whatever respect other teams had for Man United, especially at Old Trafford, is gone. It exists no more.

“Teams are quite comfortable to have a go at Man United, especially this United that are clearly in transition.

“They have an inordinate amount of quality in the squad but they lack character. They also lack the ability to do certain things which is now the stable diet of the top sides – play with intensity, play with a pressing scenario.

“It’s universally accepted that we are not looking at Manchester United ten years ago, we are looking at Man United today. So we’ve got to compare it to what it really is and we say ‘this group of players’ but we’re talking about price tags, not bona fide quality.

“When we talk about Paul Pogba, a £90million price tag, and while he has been great for France he hasn’t for Manchester United.

“[Harry] Maguire – £80million price tag. [Aaron] Wan-Bissaka – £50million price tag. It’s the cost of assembling that Manchester United side against the image of what they once were that lends us to the lack of intensity conclusion.

“Maybe, despite all that, they’re just not good enough… they’ve got too many players in there that perhaps aren’t right for the longer term.”
