Man Utd ‘watching closely’ after Chelsea defender rejects contract

Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger has reject the clubs latest contract offer, a deal worth around £200k-a-week according to reports.

Rudiger is one of three Chelsea defenders who are out-of-contract this summer and don’t appear to be any closer to a new deal. Club captain Cesar Azpilicueta and Andreas Christensen are also yet to sign a new deal.

Rudiger is reportedly earning around £100k-a-week but has now turned a new contract worth twice as much as his current deal, according to the Daily Mail.

Chelsea are still confident they can agree new terms with the Germany international but the news that the player has turned down the latest contract has put a number of top clubs on alert.

Spanish giants Real Madrid and French side Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly made pre-contract offers for the defender as he enters the final few months of his deal at Stamford Bridge.

However, Manchester United are ‘watching developments closely’ as they consider a possible move for the German.

United’s interim manager Ralf Rangnick, who will move into an advisory role at the end of the season, is reportedly a big fan of the defender and could make a move for Rudiger should he still be available in the summer.

Elsewhere, new Liverpool signing Luis Diaz has claimed he is ready to contribute for his new side immediately.

In an interview with the club’s website, Diaz, when asked how ready he is to play and make a contribution for the Reds, replied: “I think right from the word go.

“I’m committed to being available from today, the very first day I’ve arrived.

“I’ve already trained a bit today, I was out on the pitch and then in the gymnasium.

“So yes, my mindset is that I’m ready to help out my team and do my bit and contribute. I’m available to the manager and his coaching staff for whatever they need me for, and I’ll be ready to go whenever.

“This is an important moment for me and it is all about working 100 per cent because the first thing is being available and being fully match-fit so that I can produce and perform out there on the field.”
