Martial ‘turns down’ offers from Newcastle and Tottenham

Tottenham and Newcastle have had offers for Manchester United forward Anthony Martial turned down, according to reports.

Martial told interim Red Devils manager Ralf Rangnick that he wanted to leave this month due to his lack of consistent playing time.

Sevilla emerged as a potential landing point for the former Monaco man, with Barcelona and Juventus also rumoured to be interested.

Interest in England comes from Tottenham and Newcastle, who have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of the player as he does not want to join a Premier League side on loan, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Romano says that Martial “turned down” approaches from Spurs and the Magpies.

United reportedly want a loan fee plus the forward’s full wage covered by whoever takes him in the winter transfer window.

The 26-year-old was not included in the Red Devils’ squad for their match at Aston Villa on Saturday evening.

Rangnick claimed Martial did not want to travel to Birmingham for the encounter.

The German said: “Yes, he didn’t want to be in the squad. He would have been in the squad normally but he didn’t want to and that’s the reason why he was not travelling with us yesterday.”

Martial responded on Instagram, denying that he refused to sit on the bench for the 2-2 draw at Villa Park.

“I will never refuse to play a match for Man United,” he said late on Saturday night. “I’ve been here for seven years and I never disrespected and I never will disrespect the club and the fans.”

Meanwhile, Manchester United are ramping up the pressure in their pursuit of Barcelona forward Ousmane Dembele, according to reports in Spain.

The France international’s future at the Nou Camp is uncertain after a difficult few years with the La Liga giants.

Dembele has only just returned to fitness over the last couple of months with Dembele featuring just ten times in all competitions.

And now Mundo Deportivo (via Sport Witness) claim that Dembele has been given ’48 hours’ to give Barcelona an answer on their renewal offer or they will take it as he wants to leave the club.

There is ‘still no formal response’ from Dembele or his representatives and Barcelona could ‘try to advance’ a transfer to a possible new club in January, rather than losing him for nothing in six months.
