McManaman: ‘There will be riots’ if ‘amazing’ Arsenal star joined Liverpool

Steve McManaman cannot see Liverpool signing Bukayo Saka as he thinks “there would be riots” if Arsenal let him leave.

Liverpool are said to be admirers of Saka and they have added him to their list of transfer targets.

Saka has been a regular for Arsenal since the 2019/20 campaign and he has been a standout player for his boyhood club.

The 20-year-old has also established himself as a key player for England and he featured at last year’s European Championships.

As quoted by the Sport Review, McManaman insisted that “there’s no way on earth” that Arsenal sell Saka:

“Bukayo Saka would be an amazing signing for Liverpool but I can’t possibly see Arsenal selling a key player to a domestic rival,” McManaman said.

“I can’t envision that move happening. He’s one of Arsenal’s star men. I’ve seen a lot of Arsenal this season and Buyako excites me more than any other player in their side.

“Would I love Liverpool to get him? Definitely. He brings you something different. He attacks down the right, takes people on and gets to the byline. A bit different to Mo Salah, who likes to cut inside, Saka is more of a winger but a winger that likes to chip in with goals and Liverpool do need a winger like him.

“However, there’s no way on earth that Arsenal will let him go unless it’s a case of his contract running out. He’s such a young lad but still a leading figure in that Arsenal side and he’s improving every single year, so there would be riots if Arsenal let him join Liverpool.”

Glen Johnson believes Saka would “suit Liverpool down to the ground”:

“I do think it’ll be an expensive transfer to pull off because Arsenal wouldn’t want to sell one of their best players to a rival,” Johnson said.

“As he’s a fantastic player, a young player and English then it would have to be a big deal.

“In terms of Liverpool and the player being interested in a move then I believe that for sure. But I just think it would be quite a complex deal to pull off.

“I do think it would be a good move for Saka. Any chance you get to sign for one of the best teams around, as a young player, it’s going to be appealing.

“I think the way that Liverpool play will suit him down to the ground.”
