Paul Merson believes if Dele Alli was to make the move from Tottenham to Wolves, it could be beneficial for all parties.
Merson watched on as Wolves fell to a late defeat at Liverpool on Saturday afternoon. Bruno Lage’s side had been resolute throughout as Jurgen Klopp’s side were unable to find the breakthrough.
The Reds did finally secure the win as Divock Origi fired home late on to send Liverpool to the summit of the Premier League table.
Now, Merson believes someone like Alli would be a great signing for Wolves. The midfielder has be a peripheral figure over the past couple of years at Spurs after breaking onto the scene under Mauricio Pochettino.
The 25-year-old joined Spurs in 2015 from MK Dons and made an immediate impact, scoring 28 Premier League goals in his first two seasons.
There was hope Alli may be able to rekindle that from under new Spurs boss Antonio Conte, but the midfielder continues to find himself on the bench.
This has seen Alli linked with a move away from north-London and Merson thinks Wolves may be a good fit.
Speaking on Soccer Saturday, Merson said: “They need someone who is willing to run past Jimenez, in my opinion, and that might cause problems.
“You know what? That might be Dele Alli. If you can get Dele Alli to another club and he can get his mojo back, he might the answer for them.
“I don’t know too many players that have got that Dele Alli X-factor about him when he is on his game, that he is prepared to run beyond and finish and score goals.”
“Absolutely great. A very difficult game, we had to fight against an opponent that changed their approach. They normally are a footballing side, we didn’t see much of that today.
“They defended deep with a lot of players and go for counter attacks and it’s really difficult as there’s no-one as quick as [Adama] Traore.
“It was a massive challenge for our concentration as we missed massive chances with Diogo [Jota] but you have to stay in the game, which is what we did. We brought on [Alex] Oxlade-[Chamberlain] and Divock [Origi] on and in the end it worked out and I’m really happy with that.”
